Tara Barrett, PCLC

I bring deep compassion, patience, and a strong belief in human resilience to my counseling work shaped by my 25 years of experience in special education. Throughout my professional experiences, I built strong therapeutic relationships and supported clients and students through meaningful change. As a gambling addiction counselor, I saw how powerful therapeutic support in recovery can  be. In my personal time, I enjoy spending time outdoors, reading, baking, traveling, and attending concerts.

Who I work with

Adults: Whether you are a parent, a senior, or someone with disabilities, I am here to help you through life’s difficulties. I enjoy supporting parents of those with disabilities as they navigate advocacy and support for their child. My background also gives me a strong understanding of learning differences, neurodiversity, and the unique challenges individuals and families may experience.

Teens: I enjoy working with adolescents facing life transitions, anxiety, stress, relationship challenges, and other everyday struggles. Whether you’re navigating a difficult season or simply looking for support and personal growth, I’m committed to meeting you where you are and helping you move toward the life you want.

My Philosophy

I believe in the power of connection, honesty, and taking one step at a time. My clinical approach is warm, collaborative, and integrative. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based practices, and trauma-informed care to help clients understand their thoughts, regulate emotions, and process difficult experiences. In addition, my special education training and experience helps me to bring a unique lens to those with disabilities or who identify as neurodivergent.

The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.”
