Abby English, Counseling Intern
Originally from Missoula, Montana, I have lived and worked in Bozeman since 2017. My passion for mental health work grew from a deep curiosity in understanding people and a desire to support them through periods of growth, transition, and self-discovery. I am especially drawn to working with children and adolescents, and I value creating spaces where young people feel safe, affirmed, and supported as they navigate the complexities of growing up.
Whenever I can, I find grounding and joy in being outdoors, skiing, hiking, running, and backpacking. I love attending outdoor concerts, reading, taking long walks with my dog Goose, and spending cozy evenings at home with my partner and our two dogs.
Who I work with
Adult Individuals -I work with adult individuals who are going through any sort of transitional period in their lives, whether it be depression, anxiety, career-oriented guidance, or simply wanting to discover one’s values and goals.
Adolescents – I bring compassion and understanding to the transitional experience of adolescence. I am especially passionate about supporting adolescents who are navigating neurodivergence, attention difficulties, anxiety, depression, and/or questioning their identity. I strive to help teens feel comfortable being exactly who they are.
Children – I work with children 8 and older who may be experiencing difficulties with depression, anxiety, emotion regulation, and behavioral concerns. I support young people in building emotional awareness, self-trust, and resilience, while aiding their parents in supporting their child.
Abby is currently accepting clients at a reduced rate as she is a counseling intern and cannot accept insurance. Her rates are $45 for initial intakes and $35 for subsequent sessions.
My Philosophy
My approach to therapy is humanistic and client- led. I believe healing begins in a space where clients feel truly seen, heard, and understood. I work collaboratively with clients to aid them in a deeper understanding of themselves, their emotions, and their relationships.
Common goals people have for therapy include learning healthy emotional expression, strengthening relationships, identifying values, improving resiliency, and cultivating a deeper sense of self-understanding and contentment. I support clients in creating a life that aligns with who they are, their goals, and what matters most to them.
“Give yourself permission to allow this moment to be exactly as it is, and allow yourself to be exactly as you are.”
-John Kabat-Zinn
Where I Trained
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Montana State University in Bozeman. Post graduation, I have been working in the technology field for an outdoor app headquartered in Bozeman. While the experience has been valuable, I found myself wanting a career that is deeply meaningful and aligned with my values. This led me to transition into Mental Health Counseling, with the quest of building a fulfilling career centred on human connection, understanding, and support.
I am currently completing my course work and practicum in Clinical Mental Health Counseling through Montana State University Billings. I am working as a Counseling Intern at Breathe Mind Body Therapy, a crucial step towards licensure as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor, aka a therapist. Thank you for joining me on this journey.
